Default Lowering softail

I bought a 2000 heritage softail. It has 14" mini apes. I like where the bars sit right now. My question is, if I lower the front 2" and then get 16" apes will it position my hands at about the level they are at now? Or does that not work like that?? also if i could get some info on lowering font the 2". Any and all info is appreciated.

It doesn't work like that. Your bars are mounted to your risers which are mounted to your tripple trees that are stationary. You have a couple of options as far as lowering your bike. Ther are several different air ride systems and lowering bolts you change on your existing shocks. also there is a system out now from Dead Creek Cycles that lowers your rear without having to remove your shocks. As far as the front end most people are using the progressive drop in kit, all of this you can do yourself with a little time and basic hand tools.

Are you lowering the rear also? Not good dropping front only 2". Drop front and rear equal amount and the seat and bars will drop the same amount. Drop front only and the bars will drop lower then the seat, but the seat will also drop some. Bars are closer to front end/forks, so will be impacted more then seat.

We have a limit to where your bars can sit. I would like to get the 16" apes and stay legal if I could. Would like the seat to stay where it is in ride height. it states the bars must be no higher than riders armpit when riding. is there anyway to achive the lowrider look and do this

Most cops wont bug you as long as the bars aren't crazy high. But the answer to your question is no. The relationship between your body and the seat/bars doesn't change when you lower the suspension. Lowering the bike only moves the whole bike closer to the ground. And as was stated above, not good to lower only the front, should lower both at the same time.
