i have a 1992 heritage and i have a chirping under load with the clutch in gauged. I also have a vigorous shake, keep in mind this is Not the typical softail shake i am referring too. The shake and chirping get worse the longer i ride. any thought thanks
ok latest..... i took primary apart thought maybe nut had backed off, but had not, but the chain had 2 inches of play.....everything in the primary checked out put back together now there is a whining noise coming from around the cam.........still has a bad vibration and chirping sounds like it is coming from left side rear tire same side as drive belt....any thoughts ?
If the chirping is coming from back there then I'd start with wheel alignment. Belt is in good shape I'm assuming... no frays or missing/cracked teeth.
As far as the whining, no such thing as too tight of cam chain, but maybe the tensioners are shot? Worth taking a peek I think. Just crack off the chest plate and use a mirror; you are only out a gasket if all checks out.
ok spydyr what you are saying on the rear tire for for alignment makes alot of sense. i just had the rims trued and the shop put them back on..the chirping in rear showed up then and also still vibration in rear...if wheel is not aligned right i can see how the belt would fight againt pully and also the vibration with wheel fighting tracking...great point...thanks
The Drive Belt may be making the chirping noise you speak of. Use a bar of soap applied to the edges of the Drive Belt and see if the noise goes away. If it does, check and adjust the Drive Belt tension.
