So what you are saying is that I can add Cholos, upgrade the air cleaner and add a tuner like the ThunderMax? Just have to buy pipes for the '07 and up Softail?

Thanks everybody for the help.

I have an 06 Deluxe also.

Exactly. Just verify with whatever pipes you go with that the later model pipes will fit. Typically they will. TTS is another tuner that if you install sensors you can use the v-tune application and tune the bike yourself. In hind site, I should have done that....

Thanks for the help. I kind of like the idea of the Zippers just because I don't have to tune it myself but the TTS is another option that I'll look at.

ThunderMax also sells O2 sensor bungs that can be added to your existing pipes. The O2 sensors that are on my Tunrdermax setup are automobile size, which is not what comes on a Harley. I do not know if their threads are the same size, but you need to check with TMax before you buy anything. I haven't put a TMax on a Harley that already had sensors but I have read somewhere that you have to use the ones that TMax wants you to use, not HD's. That may have changed with later year models... anyway, start with TMax or any other autotune module that you decide upon and go from there, not from the pipes and air cleaner. I would not recommend an HD SE tuner unless you are absolutely positive that you aren't going to make any other changes and if you live at lower altitudes or a hotter climate, I wouldn't recommend the SE tuner at all. With some pipes you have to run the bike richer than a dealer is allowed to set the Air Fuel Ratio at. (This isn't a problem for aftermarket tuners).

Yep, I've had the SE tuner on two different bikes and want something else for this one. I like the idea of the auto tune. So we will see but still leaning toward Zippers.

Mine also already has the SE race tuner but I do not foresee me needing anything else with this bike. IF I end up with a 2nd bike someday I will probably go that route but for this bike I'm not going to change it now. I am more than happy with the way my bike is set up now and how it runs. I am done with the mechanical and performance mods on this bike as far as the motor and tranny goes. The pipe change this winter will be it's last and final mechanical and performance mod. done to this bike. The ONLY other thing I can ever see myself doing to this bike would be a POSSIBLE cam upgrade and then upgrade the cam plate, tensioner and the new and bigger oil pump. All of the other upgrades and mods I have planned for this bike are cosmetic.

Cosmetic? Seriously? That is one of the sweetest looking rides in here, Tbone.

Thanks machinistmate. Compliments from fellow bikes are the best a person can ask for. As far as cosmetics go I mean stuff like getting my seat reworked and finished in black and white to match my paint job. Cholos and some apes. I was going to paint the bike but I just really fell in love with this paint scheme. So, I went out and bought a new tank off of craigslist and now I just need new fenders and I want the rear fender stretched to the max. I am going to do the seat, apes and pipes this winter plus sending some more pieces out for chrome. The paint will probably not happen till next winter. I will say this, I just found out tonight I am finally going to be a grandpa here in about 8 more months. That may change all my plans and not just my bikes winter project list. My son is working his *** off but for a mere 12 bucks and hour. So, I will make sure my grandbaby has every thing it needs before anything else. That includes my sled, the house repairs and even my retirement plans. PRIORITIES!!! Again, thanks machinistmate. Like I said from 1 biker to another is the best compliment a person can ask for.

Those are enough mechanical mods to make me go to ThunderMax. We will keep this message in mind and throw it back in your face when you get in a thread talking about the changes you just made to your engine!

Seriously, pay heed to my comment about where you are located and an SE tuner. Pipes can make your life miserable when trying to meet EPA AFR's. For a cam change, I wouldn't hesitate to make the change to Tmax. As far as the SE cam plate is concerned, after doing mine I would either use an S&S or Andrews plate that would also change the inner cam chain to a roller chain (HD's doesn't) or, even better IMHO now that I have done the plate change, just put in adjustable push rods and make it a regular maintenance item to change your tensioner shoes every 30k or so. Simple job and after your inner cam bearings are changed to torringtons that is all you will have to do and no special tools will be required.

Well, I guess that's what makes the world go round Dude, different opinions, different mods with different parts used on different bikes. If your going to keep track of this thread just to be able to "Throw something back in my face" well, I guess that must be a pretty boring life you led. You can wait around all you want Dude, I won't be changing nothing to any of your recommendations, other then what I had mentioned and the Torrington bearings any time soon, if ever!!! Although I just prefer to cruise on my bike it does run like a rapped ape if I do say so myself. I have had nothing but compliments on my bike especially those who have worked on it, ridden it or ridden with me, well, except from you. I even got a positive thumbs up from the guy who does my major mechanical work, he said he was very surprised when he rode it, I think his exact words were "Very Impressed". Also, when I take my bike and have it dyno'd, I do not go to a Harley shop who is bound by rules and regulations. I have it dialed in to as close to perfection and peak performance as I can possibly get it and where I am located??? HUH??. I guess I must live somewhere for what ever reason no one around here can run the parts I do or their bike will always run like crap, unable to do anything about it!!! I guess I will consider packing up and moving to where my bike will run better with the set up I have or may have in the future. OH, I am not worried about any performance issues when I change my pipes either. I will get it dialed in, I promise!!! Hmmm, I wonder why such a "Hater"??
