Default 4" Curved pullback risers

Just installed risers on my 2012 fatboy. Part #56269-09. For 1.25 " bars.
Easy 1 hour install. Stock cables are fine. You will need red loctite, a 3/4" socket to remove the lower riser bolts and a torque wrench. If you go any longer than 4" I think the brake cable will need replacing, but don't quote me on that

I wasn't looking for a dramatic change in bar position, and you won't get that with these risers. I just wanted the bars a little closer so that I could get a little more bend in my elbows. If you're looking for a bigger change in position consider either new bars or possibly a reduced reach seat. I didn't want to change my seating position as my legs are comfortable the way they are now, but I was getting elbow and neck pain on longer rides.

To debunk a few myths I came across searching this topic; 1) the bars absolutely DO NOT hit the tank or console, and 2) you absolutely DO NOT need longer cables. 3) It was an easy 1 person job. 4) Yes, you need to place some shop towels on the tank to prevent scratching. 5) A 2012 fatboy absolutely has 1.25" diameter bars. 6) The part # is absolutely 56269-09

Anyway, there you have it. That's my $.02 on the subject. Happy Holidays!

Good info. The only question(concern) I have is, why in the world would you need red loctite?

EDIT: Hopefully you have a Victor wrench handy when it comes time to remove whatever you used the red loctite on and not care about the damage caused by the Victor wrench.

I can confirm that the longer 6" pullback risers will work without new cables. The brake line is tight but it works. Or at least it has for about 10,000 miles on my Fat Boy Lo. The cables are routed differently but they work.

Smileman,
Thanks for the info. I have been thinking about the change myself and will now treat myself to a Christmas gift. 4" risers !!!!

I had neck surgery in April and need the bars a bit closer for comfort.

I may use Loc-tite Blue just in case i need to remove them.

I put the 4" HD risers on my 07FB a few yrs back.. nothing extra needed. no loctite either.. good luck getting the clamp bolts out with loctite installed. they're a biatch without loctite by themselves, being upside down and an allen socket cap screw to boot..

This is from the 2012 service manual..."Apply LOCTITE HIGH STRENGTH THREADLOCKER 271 (red) to [lower]fastener threads. Install fastener and tighten to 30-40 ft-lbs. Repeat for other fastener."

And this is from the instructions that came from HD for the risers..."One at a time, remove the[upper] riser screws installed in step 3. Apply 2 drops of Loctite 271 (Red) to bolt threads and install. Tighten the riser bolts following the instructions in the appropriate service manual."

I suppose it wouldn't be a good thing for the bars to get loose on the highway LOL. I'm just following the instructions.

Smileman,

Did they really raise the bar height alot from stock risers?
Looking at it, the risers come back on an angle so you would not get the full 4" in height.
I'm really looking to bring the bars back 1" but a bit of height would not be too bad.

Sometimes following instructions is good. Most of the time it's not. Blue 242 Loctite is adequate for any fastener on an HD.
Notice what this says at the bottom.

LoctiteŽ Threadlocker Red 271™ is designed for the permanent locking and sealing of threaded fasteners. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. It protects threads from rust and corrosion and prevents loosening from shock and vibration. It is only removable once cured by heating up parts to 500°F (260°C).

It's a pretty subtle change. In my case I was really looking to get the bars closer, not higher. You get 4" in height and 1.3" pullback.
