i too came from a dirt bike rideing history, although i have had many street bke as well, if you want a nimble bike to throw into cornors get a sporster, but the fat boy will be more of a cruiser. i have had both, i miss my sporty on roads with a lot of switch backs, but i love my 05 fatboy and would recommend it to anyone. good luck in your choice

I am very happy with my Fatty. But after starting on dirtbikes 35 years ago, a HD is a lot different. I went through a Sporty and a RK Custom in less than 2 years before I got my Fatboy and realized that was the bike for me.

I now reccommend to all my friends , ride as many as you can first. Even if you have to rent them its a lot cheaper in the long run to spend a few hundred dollars to rent a couple of different models for a 1/2 dayto a day and put at least a 100 miles on them in the type of riding that you will be doing. before you make a purchase.
