Default Leaning Towards a Fatboy

Im really starting to lean towards a Fat Boy now. Im looking for a used one between 99 and 04 in the 9-13K price range. Can i get a nice one with descent mileage for that price? Am I going to have a hard time with this bike when it comes to riding? Im experienced on Dirt Bikes, not street bikes. Any pointers? Im getting really anxious! Thanks guys.

Fatboy should be a goodchoice; depending on the market in your area you should do fine with your budget too. Dirt riding will be a good back ground to bring to the street, you should take the MSC beginner training, it will help convert your experience to the street and may help save you some money on insurance as well. Good luck.

Short of a big ol bagger the Duluxe's and Fatboy's are about as big a bike as Harley makes. Your dirt riding experience will stand you in good stead, BUT take Fatboylust's advise to heart and take the MSC course.
Street riding a big old Harley isn't quite the same thing, big twinsare not quite as easy totoss around as thelight weight dirt bike's your used to. Fatboys are neither sport or dirt bikes, they areheavy duty cruisers. Theirsize, weight, and power are things that your going to have to learnto respect and deal with, becasue theyhave an abundance of all three.

Good Luck and welcome to the looney bin.

Don't lean to far. Just do it, but stay with a 2000 or newer in order to stay in the twin cam line-up.

I was also leaning towards a Fat Boy. So much in fact that I rented one for a day to get the feel of it. First thing I noticed was that I was too stretched out on it. After about 4 or 5 hours of riding I my neckwas aching pretty good.I figured that I would still get the Fat Boy but put risers on it or get different bars. The parts guy suggested I sit on a Heritage to see how those bars felt. They felt fine. I was planning to put on some bags and I use a windshield in the winter, so I wound up going with the Heritage, instead of the Fat Boy.

Man, and i've got an 05' Fatboy (carb'd with stock exhaust that i'm planning to sell this spring ! I think you'd enjoy the ride, i know i do but i wanted a Fatboy or a Bagger so bad that i really could not make up my mind , but now i'm looking for a RK because of my 52 year old back (damn degenerative disc) and i'll miss it for sure if i find a buyer (and know its not a sales pitch) i bought mine for 16,000 last march and just put gas in it and took it to harley dealership for the 5,000 when it got there so they could just note it in the owners manual as its still got an extended (treansferrable0 warranty till september 08' and i'll be asking 14,500 to 15,000 and if i can't sell it i'll add some Vance & Hines Bigshots Staggered and maybe even an S&S carb. to her ! Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

Hey Jameson I bought a new Fatty in May 06 for 17.5K. Love it but ya can't lean too far in curves like on a dirty cuz you will scrape your floorbaords which will scare you. Would like to get a new one in 08 after I see what bugs the new engine has and make sure they are worked out. I like the idea of the sixth gear and the larger engine. At 6'2" the handlebars and floorbaords fit me just fine. Added a sissybar so I wouldnt loose the wife or kids. Also the detachable windshield which necessitated the wind deflectors on the front forks. Every time I mount up I grin like it is the first time. Can't go wrong with a Harley.
