I'm looking at changing out the stock spotlights on my 2012 Heritage for the amber lens spotlight. All the amber lamps note that "Sealed beams are equipped with ring connectors. Late model bikes will require minor wiring modifications". I called my local shop and the service tech told me that i'd have to cut off the stock connector and splice on the older type of connector to work with the amber passing lamp. He said that the old conenctors dont have near the output of the newed ones so my light output would be greatly reduced. Do any of you know if there are amber lens passing lamps available with the newer style connector? I cant find them and was hoping for a little help. Harley make a smoke lens with the newer connector but I really had my heart set on the amber as the smoke is almost the same as stock.
I went through the same thing. I finally settled on putting yellow bulbs into the clear lens spotlights. the reflectors pick up the yellow when they are not on. Solaris Halo Yellow #881 27W 3000k
Thanks forthe tips. Maybe the Solaris Halo Yellow #881 27W 3000k is the ticket. dbc58 do you ahve a pic of what it looks like on your bike? The new connector style has been out for quite a while. I find it strange and annoying that no one has made this bulb with the new connector.
as long as it didnt look like $hit i'd be good with that too. The amber bulbs that i've seen with the old connectors are only $20 or so.
I am pretty sure Tony or Tbonetony ? (guy that loves talk about the Shotgun Shock) has the yellow film I think he said it looked real good as long as you do a careful job maybe he can get you a pic
The light guards would be more expensive than film while not breaking the bank (US $20 per pair). You may feel it is worth the investment. Just figured I show you all the options available to you.
A lot of guys just use lens paint. Pep boys or some such place should have it on the cheap. just comes in a rattle can and spray more layers the darker it gets. Just like candy paint basicly.
