Default 08 softail custom

This past Christmas I bought this bike and it is a little different than my old softail deuce. the clutch/transmission seems funny to me. I have adjust the clutch to where if it is in gear and i let it out, it starts catching halfway if not a little before, in the stroke. I also have adjusted it multiple places trying to get it to shifting a little smoother also adding synthetic gear oil and it just will not shift or go in gear like my old deuce. right from the beginning when i first got it,when it is first cranked and warmed up for about 5 min, when i put it in 1st gear, boom it makes one hell of a noise, i know when there cold that first time going in gear is a little louder clunk but this is a bigger clunk. also when cold i tried putting it in gear(1st) and then crank it with the clutch pulled in,the bike takes off under the power of the starter. I've also notice while running down the highway around 60 mph really don't matter what gear and I'm just giving it a little gas to keep it there it seems like there is a little slack, between the motor chain & transmission, its not terrible but just doesn't feel right. this is my first EFI bike, and it is nice, but i miss the S&S carb. my question does this sound normal, or you think maybe i need to tighten the chain(derby area) or maybe the clutch may need changing. WOT it doesn't slip or nothing and i maybe just a little finicky about the whole thing
