Looking into adding hard bags to my Fatboy.. Ive seen a few pics of Deluxes and FB's and liked it, seemed similar to the road kings I like.. Biggest problem I have is the gap in front of the bags where the frame and oiltank are.. Does anyone make a filler like on the RK's? Im going to use the HD extended bags I saw at dealer on a new SE RK and I found the bracket kits and was going to use a filler kit of some kind in the rear to close the gap between the bags and fender.. Any thoughts, links, opinions on how to do this? Im also looking to find a long dual exhaust setup for this as well, no cholo tips but I added a pic of what Im saying..
That's a good point. I don't know why I never paid attention to that filler on RK's and SG's, but that's what looks goofy about hard bags on a Softail...they stand out too much and don't blend. Good eye.
I have yet to find a vendor for the front filler. You need to remember on a softail it would start around the oil tank, while on touring bikes that is where the ecm is and I can not remember what is on the other side. So those panels also have a function on the touring bikes. I am sure if you find a good body shop they could fab some up, or try to make them yourself.
There are three tabs on the panels and they press into rubber grommets. Here is a pick from some that are on sale on ebay. If you know anyone with a touring bike just pull them off. The ecm is under the one on the right side. If you come up with something make sure to post it. I have tried but everything I did either got in the way of the wife leg or covered to much of the oil bag, which then I got concerned with heat. Good luck
