I can't find a shield that will allow me to ride comfortably without buffeting.
Tried the HD quick release and it was terrible. I also tried a few universal type handlebar mount (infinite adjustments) and still could not make this work. Close, but not as good as no shield at all. Just finished a 1400 mile ride but did not use any shield. Apparently I can not tolerate any buffeting at all. Anybody else had the same experience or success.
A good friend had the QD and never had a problem with it all. Did you try adjusting the angle of the shield (forward and back) and up/down? The slightest of change can make all the difference.
I can not deal with buffeting like yourself, I want a windshield for long trips and for rainy days...
But I am with you in the same boat..
Someone here used WindVest and swears by it.. but I did not try it.
I am changing a few things, once I am done, will try them and see..
I love my 14" windvest.... I thought I would take it off or on depending on whether I was just putting around town or doing a longer trip but once I put it on, it hasn't come off. It also blends with the bike very well.

I did try the QD in the different positions and not much difference. I even bought a large fork bag as several had suggested and not much difference either. The universal ones I have spent hours making adjustments up/down, top in, top out, etc. Fork bag on / off ....
I want this also for long trips and summer rain storms.
I have also heard good things about the windvest but not willing to spend $$$ to be disappointed again. I would like to demo one for a short ride but I have not seen them carried by any local dealer or J&P cycles.
I've tried Memphis Shades and HD quick connect windshields. From 21" down to 15". Cut it down myself I was so frustrated with buffeting. I just received my RIFLE SOLOSHIELD yesterday. Put it on last night and went for a ride. Fully adjustable 4" up/down and considerable adjustment on the rake forward or back. I rode back and forth up and down the highway making adjustments. I like it so far. Lets a lot of air through, but no buffeting. I wear a 1/2 helmet.
I recently started a thread on this subject. The QD harley shield sets my helmet buffeting over 60 mph and is not comfortable.
The advice I got from a couple of forum members is to install Wind Deflectors P/N 58125-90B. The theory is that wind is coming up from below the QD shield and causing the buffeting. I think they are correct.
I installed them and they do make a noticeable difference at freeway speeds. Now it's ready for a road trip.

... If you go to an Event where WindVest has a Booth , They will put one one your bike and take a Test Ride ..
I went through the same thing with different shields. Buffeting was so bad I couldn't see. I had a week long trip planned from Southern California to Utah to see Zion, Bryce and such. Long story short..I finally got a Windvest put it on...it was to short....called them they sent me a taller one,,,great customer service! I used the new box to ship the old one back,,they paid for that too.
I carried the wrench with me for about two weeks to find the "sweet spot" as far as adjusting the shield. Bottom line it works..no more hanging on for dear life running down the freeways. The shield works!
You can see the shield in my sig pic.

Only Memphis Shades makes those for WideGlide forks, and they leave a lot of HW on the forks, so the QD option is not that good... sadly..
