your sensor is probably busted. I had the same issue a few weeks ago - turn sigs wouldn't auto cancel, bike was stalling and choking on decel. I have a 2001 Fatboy FI though. Took out the sensor and it was covered in debris. I cleaned it off and thought it was okay for a day or so. Problem persisted and had my dealer check it out. Sensor was bad and they ordered a new one and replaced it.

I don't think that sensor was ever replaced - I'm at 28k now.

I gotmy manual in the mail finally! It seems that the sensor I was looking at was not the right one. My speed sensor is on the back side of my tranny. Looks like I'm going to have to pull the back wheel off. Definitely a weekend tasking. And with the forecast calling for rain, this weekend will be perfect for doing so. I'll keep you posted.

Dang that's crazy - I thought the sensor is in the same spot for all of the early bikes. Do you want a picture of mine for reference?

The splash guard can be removed with a 1/2" wrench without removing the wheel if you end up going that route. You will need a lift, however to get it out of the way completely. More of a hassle than hard.

I cleaned it off but still nothing on the speedometer. I'll be ordering a new one as soon as I call Harley to get the part number.

If you are in doubt whether you had the correct part, post a picture. You can do that now since you have more than 5 posts.
