Default Harley Security System and Key Fob

So I just got home from a ride and the great Harley security system almost left me stranded. It had not been recognizing my key fob intermittently but I could always put my code in through the turn signals and no worries. When this first started happening, the first thing I did was replace the batteries in both key fobs. Didn't change anything. Today, I stopped to get gas and when I went to start it, it didn't recognize the fob. I then go to input my code and it wouldn't even let me do that. The flashers would just keep blinking. As soon as they stopped blinking, I turned on the ignition, get about the first two numbers in and the flashers would start again, not letting me put the rest of the code in. After about 15 minutes I finally got the code in. Not sure if I just got fast enough or what was going on. I immediately rode straight to the house. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Know of any solutions? Is there a way to completely bypass the security system?

Man I had the same issue when the key fob fell out of my pocket on the way to work. I had to enter the codes for a couple days and it seemed like the more times I entered the codes the harder it was to enter it.

The owners manual (2013) mentions a service mode that will disable it but does not say how to do it. The only other thing I can think of is it says to wait 2 minutes before retrying to enter the PIN if it fails to disarm.

It also says if the security lamp stays on for more than 4 seconds the system requires service.

Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Only the dealership can enter the security system's service mode with their digital technician software.
