I've got an 01 FLHRI. I'm not able to get the security system to recognize or respond to either of my key fobs. I've replaced the batteries in the fobs and tried to reprogram both of them, but after you go through the cycle to program them and push the button on the fob to get it to sync with the security system, the bike never recognizes it.
Anybody had this problem? It's getting to be a royal pain to have to sit there and go through the security code using the turn signals/acc switch position every time I want to fire it up. Help!!!
#1 Make sure you are not near an area with a security system. It plays hell with the system trying to read the signal from the key fob. #2 hold the Button for about 20 seconds or so. I went through mine not working for the past 3 days. Local mechanic said He had a fellow rider whose bike was armed and it would not reset. He had to push it away from a hotel to get it to reset. Mine just statred working on its own. It would not work with the buttons or key fob. LOL Dan
There are no other systems even close to where I was working. I'm sure I've got a hardware problem somewhere, I just don't know where. I held the button down for over a minute on both fobs individually and the bike just never acknowledged them.
Something to watch for is if you are near an airport or any type of military base. With all the radio frequencies being used, it can interfere with the fob. I had this happen to me once in Florida near an AF base. The fob would not shut off the alarm so I had to resort to the manual override, but I didn't have my owner's manual with me and could not remember exactly how to disable it manually.Like you, I replaced batteries, reset them, allto no avail. I finally remembered how to do the override and got going. Later, I was told if you're ever in an area with a lot of radio frequencies in use, to hold the fob as close to the side cover where the security system is and it would work. Well, it did! I've since had this happen a few times. Oh, and I've now memorized the manual override sequence.....nothing sucks worse than a yelping siren and a bike that refuses to start!
