Default Security disable

First bike with security.
Can it be disabled permanently ?
I'm not worried about it getting stolen...
I'm worried I will be stranded with security malfunction?
Thanks
Hap

Yes sir, take it back to the dealer with your code and he can deactivate it.I was gonna have mine turned off and thats what you have to do.I would take both FOBS.

There is no logical reason to trust the "disabled" option any more than the system itself. It's the same computer. The security system is still there, you've just told it to stay off.

How do you lock your bike if the security is turned off? You NEVER leave it unattended? What are the insurance implications of having no way to lock the bike?

Set your PIN. If you ever loose your fob or the battery goes dead, you can start the bike with the PIN.

Yea, use the PIN. Every new Harley comes with a removeable card in the owners manual for the owner to write down the PIN code of the bike and has complete instructions on how to override the security if the fob is missing. I suspect you never took the time to read the manual or you would have known that losing the fob is not an issue.

Don't disable your security.

You will never even know it's there, I've had it since 2007, and never really think about it unless I am in the garage without my key and try to move it.

As others have stated, set your PIN, it is a 5 digit, and no zeros, so your normal 4 digit you use won't work. A birthday might, example: my birthday is Aug 13, so 81369 would work, or a ZIP code with no zeros, I wouldn't use the one you currently live in, but maybe the one you grew up in.

And for those nasty internet wierdos, I did not use my birthday, and the ZIP where I grew up is 48601, so couldn't use that either.

I too was worried about security and did not buy security for a number of years until the 2012 bike. They bundled it with ABS so it was there on that bike. Never a glitch. Much better than the previous "push the button on the fob" system that did in fact leave some folks stranded from time to time.

This one has worked flawlessly for me. In fact the only issue that I have heard of from friends and other club members is the occasional dead battery in the key fob. You can work around that by changing out the batteries every new year, and knowing your PIN and how to input it. My 14 now has security too. Just didn't seem right without it anymore.

Another good posibility of a code is the last 5 digits of your VIN, in reverse order, plus one, or minus one.... just need to remember your offset.

I'm pretty sure the dealer can disable the ABS too. But I wouldn't do that unless you know how to brake and are worried there'll be a malfunction in the braking system . . . or you're prone to forgetting how to use the brakes. But they can do it. Makes for a much simpler and less complicated bike.

I don't disagree.

Happened to one of my Brothers one day. I just started my bike, and opened the fob and gave him my battery for his fob.

You can buy the batteries anywhere, I bought a 2 pack at Lowes for 5 bucks, and keep spare batteries in the tourpak now.

It's a 2032 battery, extremely easy to find since it powers lots of garage door openers etc etc. I just think it's silly to disable a good feature simply because you don't know how to use it. just my 2 cents
