Security or Not?
Picked up a 2012 FLHR with only 2700 miles on her and supposedly no security system. Key fob has no battery. But when I turn ignition on red "key" illuminates as if security installed. Do I have a problem or is this normal on any touring model?
I don't know why you would have been given a fob, if there's no security system. There may be another FOB hidden on the bike somewhere. Look up the security override in your manual. If it indeed does have a hidden FOB and security, the override code will be displayed when you run the procedure. If not, then "No Security" will be displayed instead.

They probably gave you the FOB in case you want to add it later. Still sounds strange. Did you get an owners manual with the bike? I'm pretty sure that you can shut off the security, and the manual would tell you how, so if you turn security on you better get a battery for the fob...
The red key light should be blinking if you have a factory security system installed. Even if there is a FOB hidden on the bike somewhere the lights and turn signals would blink when you turn the engine off as the system arms itself. So I don't think you have security.
Take off the right side cover and the seat. Look at the TSSM. If there's only one plug with wires you don't have security. If there's two plugs with wires, one large on that goes to the bike's harness and the other one is an antenna on top of the battery tray. On 07 and newer bikes if you have security you have this antenna.
The red key light comes on at start up on all Harley's. It's part of the code storing process in the PCM.
