windshield vibration
thought i would try a windshield, i like the relaxed feeling at high speeds but it makes the whole damn bike vibrate.
has anyone else experienced this?
has anyone else experienced this?
thanks for the replies.
this is my first windshield (unless my first bike had one) but i do know what buffeting is from tying things to my handle bars.
i get a little buffeting (surprisingly not much) but mostly i get wind coming up from below... my goatee usually flows back and to the sides, now it comes up and forward far enough to lick it while riding!
i will re-check all fasteners but this was a vibration i could feel in the bars and in the pegs.
i will go for another ride tomorrow (didnt have a chance today) and try a few adjustments to see how it feels, if i continue to have the vibration i will take the windshield off to make sure it is not an unrelated issue.
just wondered if anyone has ever experienced this before.

yeah, my beard flies just fine without the windshield, not so much with the Heritage windshield, it tends to go up my nose with it installed. I look pretty goofy when I stop. You are gonna get some more air blowing up from the bottom, but nothing that shakes the bike--at least in my experience. it should only change the airflow around you, and not affect the bike.
With forward controls and sitting bolt upright against the wind a windshield is a must. Otherwise you will get blown right off the bike at highway speeds. I bought the little "windvest" for my first shield so that it would look sexy on the Deuce.
Instead the whole bike shook at any speed over 55 and the wind was all aimed at my helmet which was now trying its best to strangle me.
I tried every angle and height but no luck. Then I bought a blank Memphis Shades "Demon" plastic only and mounted it to the beautiful Windvest hardware. From the first this worked better. First adjusted it to fit flush to the headlight for a tight seal. I could hit 60 in comfort but there was a lot of buffeting and suction which pulled my helmet towards the shield with a vengeance when passing trucks.
So I drilled out some higher holes. There was a bit of a gap between the headlight and the lower lip but a lot of the suction was gone. I could now do 65.
Then I raised it and pulled it back hard against the fork legs. Now I could do 70.
Couple days ago I drilled out yet another set of holes and raised it up to where it is even with my upper lip. The gap over the headlight is now huge. There is no longer any suction when passing trucks.
The shield has "clicked." It no longer wiggles when passing trucks, even nasty double rigs at 80.
After I pass 85 the bike just keeps getting more and more solid in how planted it feels. I would say there is only downward force now, no lift. And the breeze comes around the shield in total equal amounts below, to the sides and over the top. It keeps the blast off my upper body and right to the top of my helmet is still out of the blast. There is some wind but it feels good. And it is not strong. The bike is on rails.
I just got back from 200 miles on the New York Thruway, passing GoldWings, Dressers, StreetGlides, RoadGlides and even impressing what few crotch rockets were out there taking short spins. 200 miles of comfort, no neck aches. No moments of anything but total control.
I could have gone even faster but there were a few cops sitting in the medians looking for speeders. So I cruised at 80 and took a few high speed blasts just to convince myself it wasn't a dream.
Took five years of screwing around but boy am I one happy sumbob...
Experiment. There is no other answer.
