hello & model decision
1st I want to say hey since its my 1st post here. Ive always rode and still have sportbikes.
I have a custom '02 Triumph Daytona C.E. 955I. Half of my friends have sportbikes & others have cruisers.
Im actually thinking of selling the Triumph and getting a Harley. Because of my sportbike passion I find the vrods quite hot but have been told by some to stay away. I want something aggressive and semi-obnoxious if I switch to a Harley. Another buddy said I should look at either a Deuce or Night Train. You guys have any opinions?

You can make any harley into a monster, my dad has a wide glide with stage 1 and vance hines short shots, and its the best of both worlds, its a crusier and a snappy unit. The dyna family seems to be a little more sporty yet you can get the comfort of a cruiser.
Used to have a 955i. I'm a sportbike junkie and have a few in the barn but also get a kick out of Harley's.
Keep your custom 955i if you can. Won't get much for it and having it will be a great complement to a hot Harley. Then again, if you live where many roads are flat/straight, maybe sell the Triumph.
Preceding said, the Dynas are typically the hottest Harleys (Well, except for some hot Sportsters). Sportier relatively speaking. Go to the Harley-Davidson web site and check them out. Wouldn't go for the Deuce. Used to have one. Long wheelbase. A factory custom. The Night Train looks mean. Would consider it among the Softails.
And preceding said, the various V-Rod models are HOT. Forget any kind of suggestion against them. They rock. Plain and simple. You must check them out. I think they are what you are looking for unless you want a traditional air-cooled Harley. But the V-Rod will drop them from site with a twist of the throttle.

Take your time and really look at them all in great detail before you decide. So many people start with the wrong bike and lose their *** trading it in before they have it a year. As far as aggressive and semi-obnoxious, well, I'd go for an 06 train over the deuce simply because of the 200 rear tire.
Above advice is right-on. Keep your 955 if you can afford to since it's a totally different kind of ride and would make a great alternative to the Harley. On the other hand, if you can only have one bike, be sure to get what you really want. Unless your like me and can never make up your mind! I want one of every bike made!

Have you thought about renting a Harley to see what model you would like???????????

Any of the Harleys are going to be great bikes. The V-rod is scarry fast but for me, it is gives an uncomfortable riding position. But then I'm an old geezer with a bad back. The Night Train is a cool looking Softail as is the new Street Bob in the Dyna class. Mostly, it all boils down to you and what you prefer.
Since your coming from sportbikes my guess is power will be a big concern. That said, you will not be happy with an 88 c.i. they hardly get out of their own way. A v-rod will certainly be more to the power side and I would bet that the reason you were told to stay away was resale. If that's the case find a used one you can buy right and let it rip! Nightrains look cool, but friends say they are uncomfortable.
I'd say ride some and see but if you're definitely looking to keep the sport side of it then a VROD (or a night rod) would be the way to go. There's no reason to stay away from them at all.
