What do you mean by "the bike wasn't running right" ? Sputtering, lack of power, idled poorly, ran like crap at low rpm's, high rpm's ?? You may have been having an electrical problem. What year bike?

First thing I would do is make sure the carb is seated good on the manifold, some time the rubber seal gets pinched and lets air in.
Second thing I would check it the slide, make sure the rubber seal in the top of the carb is not pinched and make sure it is sealing good, this is a real easy part to not get seated right.
Come to find out it was only the idle screw. I screwed it down some and it holds idle. Once warmed up good it ran fine. also had to tweak the air mixture screw some. I Was having issues the other night though, i believe its electrical. Lots of misfires, popping noises and hesitations at WOT. Changed the spark plugs not to long ago so thats not the problem. Btw its my first harley if you couldnt tell
