I rode rice in the past and it was fine at the time. Now I prefer to cruise and there is nothing better in my opinion than any of the HD brood to take you down the road and lose yourself.
The work I do to my bikes is to make them more me. I do the same with my cars, from my 2011 and 2013 Dodge Challengers to my 1972 Monte Carlo, there isn't much stock about any of them. If I aint tinkerin, I aint livin.

Then when I was 65 I bought my first Harley. It was a 07 FXSTC. A black and chrome beauty in Aug 06. The feel, fit, finish and handling was exactly what I wanted in a bike. Now seven years later, I have 10 HD's in the garage. Sportster's, Softail's, Dyna's, VRod, Road Glide Custom and CVO along with an Ultra. They don't sit either as I put 30K/yr between them. Took the 11 XL1200L on a 2,000 mile round trip to Sturgis. It ran flawlessly.
I have toured over most of the North American Continent and never had a failure. They have yielded 50 mpg even the 110. I have not even had to replace a battery yet.
One single warranty repair was spider cracking on the windshield of the 10 Ultra. Only about 4 recalls among all of them. None of the recall items like the voltage regulator, rear brake switch and ground issue on the 7 Softails had happened with mine.
Fit and finish is the best of any bike that I have had. That exceeds by a mile the experience that I had with about 30 other bikes.
Most owners do not experience the exaggerated problems that some whiners rant about. Truth be known their problem was likely due to performance mods and riding it like you stole it.
None have ever matched the resale value of HD which for me have very low insurance rates.
I like all motorcycles but from now on I will only purchase HD.
By the way except for AFR and oil coolers they are all stock. I consider the lean burn AFR not to be stock for a air cooled motor and oil coolers just make good sense . That is the only mods that can improve reliability. A cooler engine lasts longer and runs stronger.
Oh! And yes I am a very old coot. Want to try and keep up with me? Headed to Yellowknife soon.
