Default add cruise control

I've been on this and other forums since most have come online and riding long before the Internet came about.the one question that hasn't really been answered is how to put electronic cruise control on a softail.i know a few companies offer a kit but they are kinda expensive.has no one managed to do this with either a Harley cruise control or one made for a car?its been done on other bikes with the rostra kit for cars so why not a softail or dyna?it can't be that hard but then if I knew if it was or wasn't I wouldn't be asking.

There are a few threads about using the rostra kit on a softail. Drawbacks are it takes up quite a bit of space that most don't have and you are looking at around $400 minimum.

I saw one of these on a HD at Thunder Beach in Panama CIty Beach few years ago. He did a pretty nice job. I did not talk with the owner so really not much info for you. Murph's has this unit for $240.

Is there really a big demand for cruise on a softail? Tour bike yes, bagger maybe but most softails eh?

I don't think there is a lot of people who want cruise on a softail.but coming from riding dressers for the past 10 years I kinda got used to the cruise.to make it worse my heritage is a 2013 so wiring could be another problem but it can be done I'm sure but don't want 1200$ or so in it

Some of us do Tour on a softail.... I can see where cruise would come in handy on the 300+ mile stretch on 81 in Virginia.

One of the ONLY things I truly miss about my Touring bikes is the cruise control...But I'm not forking over $1200 for it either.

I've been batting this around also for my FB. the biggest question for most it seems, is where to mount the control unit assy.. i was thinking about mounting it in a swing arm bag. the eyelet/cable ferrule hole is already on the throttle body so that shouldn't be a problem. the other issue is where to mount the ugly *** cruise switch that the aftermarket offers.

i did find a rostra kit last fall for about 140 bucks with a generic switch and thought i would just use the factory HD switch pods on the handle bars from a touring bike. never did look into the pricing on it though. the cruise switches themselves are nothing special just momentary contact for initial engagement, resume etc.. and one main on switch.

maybe i'll get a chance to do it this, like i was planning last winter, but time just got away from me.

I just keep my throttle lock tight enough.
Yea I know, not supposed to, and no this does not answer your question.

the 14 cvo breakout i seen at the hd museum to day had cruise. (by the way that is a badd *** bike except for the reflector above the rear tire and the license plate) why is that the softail cvo models get cruise but not an option for the regular softails of any model? i know there are aftermarket kits but i want original or nothing at all.
