If something happened to the CVO softail cruise controls you know the dealers could get a replacement. Whether they would let us buy one, or whether they would work on the newer stock softails remains to be seen.

Every time I turn my CC on, I come up on a pack of cars and have to turn it off. Just stopped using it all together.

I installed a device called the BrakeAway Motorcycle Cruise Control. It is actually a throttle lock, is actuated by your thumb and also kicks off if you pull your hand brake. It is a professionally made aluminum product that looks like it is made for the bike, not a cheezy add-on. if you search for it, you will find their website easily. I found it at the usual online retailers for a little less than the company wants. Like I said, it is just a very nice throttle lock...but it gives my hand a brake on the straightaways of frequent 150 to 200 mile trips. VERY much worth the money.

the only bikes with drive by wire were touring bikes. i don't know if the softail family has been changed to that yet or not. my 12 fatboy is still a cable.

yes,I been keeping up with it and thanks for the information.i have a 2013 heritage so I have to see how the wiring will connect since it has the new can bus wiring.from what I read as long as I don't get into twisted pair wires I'm alright.i have a friend who knows this wiring so I guess I'm going to pick his brain a little.
