Default Leaky issue...PLEASE help!

Hey folks, I have a question that might seem dumb, but I am not wrench and have never been mechanically intelligent.
So I took my Breakout into the shop yesterday morning and had a new exhaust, A/C and Tuner (SERT) installed. I had my first 1,000 mile service (synthetic3) performed on the bike yesterday morning before all of those parts installed. After the service and installation, I had the bike dyno-tuned. Yesterday afternoon I went and picked the bike up and went for a ride. Everything seemed to be running just fine and I thoroughly enjoyed the new sound and performance of the bike.
I took it home after a little ride and put it in the garage for the evening. Later that night, a buddy came over to check out the new additions to the bike, and when we stepped out into the garage I noticed a puddle of fluid under the bike. I ran my finger through the fluid and it felt like oil. It was a light yellow color that looked like engine oil. I then checked my oil dipstick and it was still showing full.

Now I am very confused as to what this could be since the oil tank was still full?? If anyone has any suggestions as to what this might be please help! Thanks.

Where in relation to the bike was the oil?

Did you check your transmission fluid level too?

First..sorry if any of this sounds barney-style, but since you said you have no mechanical knowledge, im trying to simplify everything..

You ran your finger through the liquid on the ground, next what you need to do is lay down and look to see what's on the bottom of the engine.

So, the 'real' oil drain plug is on your exhaust side, where the swingarm meets the frame..

it's (2) in this image. Check there first.

Second place to check would be your transmission drain plug, for this you may need a mirror and a flashlight. The transmission drain plug is between your shocks on the bottom of the transmission.

Third place to check, run your finger along the bottom of your primary (where the gasket seam is).

Fourth place to check, and hope to heck it's not this, is the crank case plug. To find this plug, go to your cam cover (the thing on the exhaust-side that has the black circle thing that says "103"), go under the frame, and there's a plug under there. This plug is to never be removed unless absolutely necessary. I hope your tech didn't drain the oil from this one, else he's dumb.

Check all of those things, and post back with what you found.

could also be from where they changed the oil filter and didn't wash off the spilled oil. When I bought mine they did the 1000 mile service for free, was part of the deal. when I got it home there was oil coming from the voltage regulator area under the filter. Just a thought

Bring it back. Let them tell you where it came from. Let them check all their plugs and seals. Could be overflow from a spill too but you need to put the responsibility on them and not on you to figure this out since you don't have much knowledge yet.

OK Sgt_Jim...that seemed to be very helpful. The leak was coming from directly under the middle of the bike and the two shocks under there had a good amount of the liquid on them. I am not at home right now or for the rest of the night because I am working my shift at the fire station all night. As soon as I get home tomorrow evening, I am going to check the transmission plug. Those shocks seemed to be very close together so hopefully I will be able to see it somehow.

Also, how big was the puddle? quarter size? pizza size? lol..if just a few drops, like said above its prob just oil left on frame from the oil filter being replaced.

Like Sgt Jim said if it's coming from the middle between the shocks that's your tranny an between the shocks up in that narrow space is a plug with Allen wrench fitting. It could be they left it loose or hopefully they didn't strip it either way I would take it back and make them fix it.

Go by an auto parts store on your way home and buy an inspection mirror. It's a mirror on telescoping shaft and you use it with a flashlight to look under your bike.

Whatever you find, take your bike back to the dealer and make them fix it. Hopefully they didn't cross thread the trans bolt.

It wasn't leaking when you took it to them.
