If it's when it gets dim, follow the wires back to the main fuse and battery, also test the voltage regulator and stator.
If it's when it gets brighter (real bright or normal bright?) test the voltage regulator and stator.
The light goes out on the speedo when the headlight brightens up...

Sounds like a lost ground back feeding through light.

I went ahead and reinstalled the harness that allows the spot lights to stay on while the high beam are in use and didn't have any problems with the head light. Coincidence... maybe... I think I'll remove the headlight again and check all the wires to make sure everything looks ok... I appreciate all the help...

I thought there was a voltage regulator recall on 11-12 Softails. I know there was on my 12 Deluxe.

The chrome one looks better. Just swap it out and either way it's still a win.!

I've heard on more than one occasion that maybe the recall didn't go far enough, as there were plenty of bad regulators out there that fell outside the range of official listed recall numbers...

Speaking of which, I don't remember if it was actually a "Recall" or one of those "Product Program" listings.
I think it was the latter for a Dyna I had last year.
For an official "Recall" they'll notify you, for a "Product Program" announcement, they won't...

Thinking if it acts up again I'm going to replace the voltage regulator... Could be an easy fix...
