There are new people coming here all the time. There are people who are not new here but maybe never read or thought about topics because it never interested them, couldn't afford it and so. This forum is for those people more than anyone else, IMHO. It's about learning and sharing information and people should be able to come here without being made fun of or people getting ripped for giving their opinion, no matter how many times in the past they have done so. If you already know everything then this forum is probably not for you. I been riding 40+ years and I still learn **** all the time. I am still shocked at times how SOME bikers here make **** of other bikers. I have never seen that before in all my years of riding. I have seen a few people over the years pull that **** at a bar or pig roast or something and it never ended well at all for them. Why people don't ignore threads that bothers them is beyond me.

I can't speak for the legend other that it would never serve me the way I would need an air shock to work for me so I never considered it. The SS, to me, is worth every penny and not only would I do it again, I would never own another softail without it on there. If your interested in more information let me know and I can send you a private message later from work with some detail. Ok, let the slaughter and slander begin. It's cool, I'm comfortable with who I am and I never tire of trying to help a fellow biker out, as it should be. After all, the OP is asking for help.

Good post Tony, I'm with you on everything you said. No need for guys to **** on people that come on here and give good reviews of a product or ask questions about one. If someone is looking at dropping 1200 bucks they should ask questions instead of blindly throwing money away. I for one would never own a non shotgun equipped softail either, it makes that big of a difference in the ride quality. I also don't look at it as a fad either, I didn't get it to look cool or ride around slammed. Usually I am at stock height sometimes a little higher, the versatility is one of the major factors for me. When I head into the mountains I'm at a different height and preload than when I'm riding a desert highway, I want a different preload if my wife jumps on with me. With the stock system crawling under the bike to adjust preload sucks and you end up not adjusting it. Changing tranny fluid takes a extra 5 minutes of minimal effort.

Exactly ,thanks for the reply. It really doesn't bother me, it's like anything else I just look for a more productive resource if I don't learn what I want.

With the SS isn't the belt tension only right at one height point?
Doesn't setting the bike at different ride heights change the belt tension? Either too tight or too loose except the 'sweet' spot. Is a loose or over tight belt a good thing?
How much does the tension vary throughout the height range? Is it noticeable or anything to be concerned about? How does it effect the belt wear?
Just something ive often wondered.

I don't think anyone made fun or ripped Stopit. "ghoticov" provided an answer and "08Nighttrain" recommended that Stopit do a "search", which was good advice.

Most of the rest of the comments were just people yanking Stopit's chain.

Shotgun Shocks has to be one if not the most commented subjects on this forum so there's no doubt that the comparison that Stopit was looking for has been made before, so to get a good answer a search is the best answer.

Also, if one's skin is so thin that they can't take a little poking of fun then this forum is certainly not the right forum for them.

I don't think so.
If that were true, then the only "right" setup would be a hardtail - no height changes at all...

I would think that the H-D engineers would make sure that the symmetry of the swingarm design would allow for the same tension in all positions.

Maybe we should have a sticky about how to use the search function. This may alleviate the new shotgun and oil change threads every week that continue to have the same info posted. Or what about a sticky for the shotgun and oil changes.
