Leave it in the bike and let the pigtail just hang under the seat. That way, during the riding season you can just tuck it under the seat if you want. Me, I just leave it hang all the time. JMO
worked for us for 7yrs.. our dealer puts one on the battery of all new bikes and lets them hang out the bottom of the Oil tank

I ran across this while looking to see what others do with the pigtail. I was searching for this very reason. Riding down the road and smelled something funny, just thought it was a car around me. Got home to find that the cap had been melted off mine, and the connector itself was almost glued/melted to the heat shield.
