Default Battery Tenders

Now that the weather is slowing warming in Ohio, there will be sporadic rides. Question I have is how many days can I go without hooking up the tender if I do not start the bike up. It is a brand new battery. What is a good rule of thumb

Do you have an alarm or anything that is a constant battery drain? If not, I don't worry about it unless the bike is going to sit a few weeks during warm weather.

My opinion is to always hook it up to the tender when not in use. It is not necessary, but it is very simple and it should prolong the life of the battery by a year to two.

For sure plug it in. It will lengthen the battery life and keep the charge up for a good start when you want it. You don t want to get out there to go for a ride and find that your bike won t turn over. And there is your battery tender sitting on the work bench right next to it. Damn that would suck! Ride safe. Yea the temptation is to unplug it with the warmer weather coming, but leaving it connected until you find yourself riding the bike again at least a day or two a week.

Some would say leave it on (connected) anytime your not riding.....
I cant argure with that either, but I'll probably pack mine away once I find myself riding it again every week.

Thanks guys for the response. Exactly the information I was looking for. Riding today as the weather in Cleveland is hitting 48 and sunny.

Agreed on always plugging it in. Occasionally if I know for a fact I'll be riding again that day or the next morning I'll leave it unplugged, but other than that its always plugged in.

The last battery I bought. The guy told me that it's about 3-4 years normally and 5-7 years with a tender.

If I haven't ridden my bike in 10 days I usually plug it in just in case 10 days turns into 20.

Good luck,
Tom
