Dealer return?
About three weeks ago I purchased my first Harley a 07 Fatboy. The bike was finally delieved last week and I immediately fell in love with it, but the last couple of days I have had some unforseen cicumstances happen in my life andI am afraid I will no longer be able to afford the bike. My question is has anyone ever talked to their dealer about returning their new bike or maybe the dealer buying it back. My bike has only been around the block once, it had 1 mile on it when delievered and now it has 5 miles on it. I understand the bike is no longer new it is used. Has anyone ever gone through this before? I would appreciate any advice or ideas anyone has. Thanks Bob
I believe that once the title is assigned to you the bike is considered to be 'previously owned'.
Good possibility HD might buy it back, but you would probably take a majorfinancial hit, as they would have toresell it as a 'used vehicle'...

Sell it yourself and list it as new. As it only has 5 miles on it. My bike had 5 miles on it when I bought it from the dealer. Somebody will buy it and you will get a pretty good price for it.
Yeah I agree with atomic, give the dealer a shot, then but it on ebay as NEW, cuz it is. Selling it yourself will save some dealer BS $$$. A grand under dealer pricing and it will sell quick. Sorry to hear about your situation, hope it all works out........[sm=signs003.gif]
I would suggest selling it yourself. The dealer would put a hurtin' on you and turn around and make a nice chunk off of it. Look at Ebay or list it on the "Deals on Wheels" publication. Hope everything works out for you.
Figure out a way to keep the bike. Now is the best time to sell a bike but, your probably gonna take a big hit with the price.Good Luck !

I agree with most of the previous posts. I doubt the dealer will take the bike back and give you a reasonable price for it due to it being "used". One thing you should ask them if they will sell it on consignment. If not, sell it yourself.
Sorry to hear about the bad fortune, Bob...I hope everything eventually returns to normal.
Everyone is right...once registered...it is now used! I knew that the only winner on trying to return the bike would be the dealer, but I was curious as to how much of a winner they would be...so I called my buddy who is a sales manager at an HD dealership. OMG! He could not give exact figures without personally seeing the bike, but 25%-35% less than what you paid for it is close! And itcould even be more than that! He said that if they took a bike in a situation likes yours, and they have, that they would low-ball you and then offer it to someone at the dealership with a markup first. They do inhouse financingfor employees that have been there a while and can'tget a loan from a primary lender. It would be expensive for them, payroll deduction for sure, but it would be a way that a mechanic or parts guy could get a new HD. If no one wanted it, it would go on the floor at a price that would come close to a new one and targeted at customers that can't quite swing a new HD and could get financed ata secondary lender. And of course, that poor guy would end up paying more for a used one than a new one with a primary lender! Damn!
Anyway...sell it yourself! Advertise as new and it should move quickly. Maybe a few large cities close by, and for sure Ebay!
Good luck, Bob!
