Some of us are doing pretty good by just installing an 8-buck 100/80 headlight bulb from an ordinary auto parts store.

That's definitely an improvement over stock for halogen bulbs. I used to do the same thing for quite a few years, until the charging system couldn't take it with additional auxiliary lighting and accessories.

One of the side benefits of HID's is that after the initial startup, the current draw is allegedly much less than anything close in halogen light output. 35 watts is what most of the ones I've dealt with are rated at, per light.

That leaves much more to work with for other electrical accessories--for those who desire heated clothing and other things.

All the best,

Shane

I would like to add a brighter headlight to my FXDB.

Can someone post a link to the options discussed?

Or should I search through this thread and quit being lazy?

I'm not running multiple peter-heaters or anything, (kind of stuck in "old school"), so I haven't put a big challenge on my charging system yet.

It may be an improvement from the original bulbs but I am sure it will not match the truck light not only is it bright you can see the shoulder of the road you will not really know unless you actually have been on a ride with the truck light

Maybe so. You've tried the 80/100 bulb?

I would be more concerned about damaging the headlight wiring with such a current draw. It is not uncommon to see this happen with higher wattage bulbs. Be cautious. If you want to run that bulb safely, I would wire a relay in with thicker gauge wiring.
