You don't have to, but the straps wear the paint off the swingarm. So you might want to.
Also, mount it high enough so you don't scrape the bottom when turning left. The leather holds but the stitching doesn't.

The La Rosa is thin and a much lower quality than either the Leatherworks or Garage Leathers.
The Garage Leathers gets a slight edge quality wise. I own both a Leatherworks and Garage Leather solo bag.

I mounted mine on a diamond plate piece of aluminum using a three point contact.

I used WARG's blog as a starting point.

Mine has polished stainless hardware and chrome spacers.

Hey guys, if you are interested, check out our "Bobber Bag" line of solo swingarm bags for Softails (and Dynas, and Sportsters). They are top quality hand made bags and are definitely not the cookie-cutter bags that everyone else has.

Also, our bag has a feature that no other bag has, which is a removable snap-in liner made out of weather resistant ballistic nylon. The liner also has a concealed document pocket sewn into it to hold your important docs.

The bags work great with our Bobber Bracket hard mount kit as well, or as mentioned previously, you can make your own hard mount kit for your bike.

For more details, you can check them out here (Bag): http://www.deadcreekcycles.com/Dead-Creek-Cycles-Bobber-Bag-Leather-Solo-Swingarm-Bag-for-Harley-Softail-Rigids-and-Bobbers_p_1193.html

and here (bag mount):

Can't seem to find any good pics of it on the bike, but here's one of the bag with the backer plate insert I made for it.

I like that buckle. Do you get any rattling from it?

Not a sound. It latches pretty tight, there is a ball catch that holds the handle down.

I've always dug the look of that bag, especially the latch, which looks like you could lock it with a small padlock also.

Too bad they don't make em rectangular so I can fit my gym shoes in it. I love my BadnG bag however. My gym clothes, including shoes are in it right now. It's holding up great to near daily use.

I've had my Garage Leathers bag for 5 years and it's still like new. Not some mass produced corporate bag... You cannot go wrong with GL.

This subject has been beat to death...plenty of threads on it.

None at all... it latches snugly.
