Looking to purchase a 2 into 1 exhaust. It is so mind boggling on which to choose. V & H, Bassini, D & D fatcat, and so on and so on and then I came across the Patriot Defender Exhaust. Has anyone heard of this exhaust or know someone who has one? One of the key features is you get to control the sound because it has a butterfly valve inside the pipe. Anyone?
People like them. Personally I was thinking that at some point that butterfly would lead to some annoying rattle before long. Maybe not, but I can say Im glad I went with d and d (bobcat).
I can control the sound of mine too, .....with my right hand. Cruising its pretty mellow, grab the throttle and holy **** man!
LOL...Thanks brother...D and D Fatcat was my first choice. Heard a lot of great comments about the look and sound of them. Putting it on a Fatboy...Thanks again...

I wasted a lot of money on hit or miss purchases. Started with Screaming Eagle slip ons. Wasn't happy. They looked good but were too quiet. Then went to Vance & Hines Big Shot Duals and the Fuelpac tuner. I lost power but they sounded good. Then, I got smart! I talked to a independent guy that Dyno Tunes. I have a 96 inch RC and I'm sick of my brother in law who just bought his first Harley and all I've heard is how much faster his 103 is than mine. The tuner guy recommended either D&D 2 into 1 or Rinehart Racing Xtreme with 4" round mufflers, true duals. He said they have had better success making power with those two than any others. I chose Rinehart. I love the sound. I also installed a set of Andrews .555 cams and a MasterTune tuner. My bike made 90.66 HP and 98 fp of torque. The pipes are deep at normal speeds and they come alive when you twist the grips. I love it. No more bragging from the brother in law.
In the last 8 years my bike has gone from the stock exhaust to drag pipes then to the Fat Cat with regular baffle.
A few weeks ago I switched to the quiet baffle.
The Fat Cat with the quiet baffle is still a bit loud for my taste. The sound is lower deeper and a bit more quiet then the regular baffle.
Have you heard a Super Trapp. You can adjust the sound level on it by adding or removing discs.
Everyone has a different opinion on which exhaust sounds best and what is a good exhaust volume. I like an exhaust that is louder then stock but not obnoxiously loud.

I talked with another forum member that had posted a photo of his Heritage with a Bassini 2/1. I loved the look and he praised the sound. From his description I felt it was worth checking into. Turned out the sound was more to my liking than the D&D and V&H.
At idle and just motoring down the road the sound isn't overly loud. At 60 mph the lady and myself can still carry on a conversation without screaming(Heritage with windscreen). Twist the throttle and open that baby up and it wakes up ! To say I'm satisfied with the sound, the quality of the finish(chrome) and added performance would be an under-statement. I added a tuner and Ness big sucker air intake at the same time as the pipes. This Heritage moves pretty good now !
I have never seen a Patriot Defender. However, I would avoid any exhaust that has moving parts. Just too much vibration in a v-twin to not develop a rattle. That's my thoughts, anyway. Think about it: constant heat cycling (expansion/contraction) as well as the vibration.
Check out some of the "bike nite" gatherings in your area (get there early) and listen for the sound you like then try and run the guy down and ask questions. Keep us posted on what you end up with.
