Default Conversion from Ultra complete

Sold the Ultra bought the Heritage. Things I noticed right away:

Bike is far more "flickable" and "walkable" in the garage

Buffeting is bad, Ordered fangs since most of it is coming from the bottom.

Have Guard Chaps as well,But those are for the Winter,

Bike is much smoother over all and a whole lot quieter on the top end for some reason.
Throttle lock is very nice,

Except for the buffeting I love the bike far more than the Ultra and I will get the buffeting under control.

Congrats on the new Heritage, like the color. The Heritage is definately an easy to ride bike especially at slow speeds to. Buffeting is bad I will agree, I have fangs but only use them when it is cool otherwise blocks to much air from the motor but that is my opinion, I took them off once it warmed up. The fangs do make a big difference when they are on, can even wear a hat while they are on. I don't have a picture of it with it on but hanged out the shield to an LRS light tint shield which helps keep the wind off the wife more especially since I changed out to the taller Mustang pillion.

I love it how I can "throw around" my Heritage in traffic.
It does kinda tick some people off sometimes, but screw them I've got places to be

As for the buffering; I put the fangs on and leave them on all the time. It greatly helps. Some people don't like the look, but I personally do.

Also, if my Wife and I are going on a long ride I swap my stock 17" windshield out for a 21" Klock Werks billboard flare shield and boy does that make a big difference in the buffering and the air flow that my Wife experiences.

My neighbor who has an Ultra the other day stopped by my garage and I offered to let him take my Heritage out. He came back with a smile and stated "I've got to get me one of those".

He got his Ultra thinking he would do more touring but has since figured out that it's just more bulk than he really needs or likes and he doesn't really "tour" anyway.

Welcome to the softail world!!!!!

YEP The Ultra was a buffet I sat down already full at. Too much bike for my riding style. If I get the buffeting under control I will be a very happy camper.

I have not had a bike I can ride with a ball cap and shorts on since the Yamaha 1300. Not that I make a habit of that but if I am home and I need to run to the store for something I hated having to change into jeans and boots with heels to take the Ultra. Sometimes I just want to get on and go with whatever i am wearing. I missed that.

And lets face it going down in jeans is not all that much safer than going down in shorts. Denim gets chewed though in a couple inches of tarmac. It is a false sense of security.

Plus I find I ride far more judiciously when I am more vulnerable in the Summer than when I am fully geared up in the Winter. I scrape floorboards in the Winter, Never happens when I am not geared up in the Summer.

I did not feel safe on the Ultra. I felt the bike controlled me and my actions. If I rode 400 miles of freeway a lot I could see having that bike. But I scoot to the the grocery store and errands more than long trips. I am going to love this bike. (and I will keep the fangs on as the narrow bottoms does not prevent air to the motor. Guard chaps definitely does.

I am ordering creature comforts and GPS mounts Then come Slip Ons. I had Wild Pigs and liked them well enough for $200 with 2" baffles. Undecided about air kit and tuners. I don't want to obsess over this tune and that tune like I read many do..

Hmmm LRS shield. I bought one for the Ultra and sold it (too dark)lol but i will look again for a taller shield for this bike with a lip, Harley shields are too expensive for nothing much.

Dont worry about it. No one ever died from roadrash. They just wished they were dead.

I have crashed multiple times in shorts, a tee and sneaks... walked away. Twice I crashed leathered head to neck, and twice broke my left leg in 6 pieces. YMMV.

Congratulations.
I thought that the touring bikes, although heavier, were easier to handle, especially at low speeds due to having less rake in the neck then Softails.

That's not my experience with the Ultra. The weight trumped the short wheel base for me/ I don't weigh enough to counter the weight. was always fighting it and the physics changed with a full tank of fuel as well. Very top heavy bike.

I probably could have handled a Street Glide better and if I did not get my price I would have turned the Ultra into a Street Glide. But that was a last resort.

MUCH happier with the Heritage.

I did exactly what you did, went from an Ultra to Heritage. I agree with all you said. It's lighter and more nimble, and more fun to ride. The only thing I miss is the cruise control, and maybe Harley will come out with one for Softails someday.
