Aaaand pulled the trigger on...
After 2-3 months of going back and forth, nearly agonizing over which emblems to get, I finally broke down and decided on the '57 Panheads. It came down to those or the '61s (the black and white star ones). So logged onto the devil and found some at what started was a good price...I couldnt resist, they really are the best looking panhead old school emblems out there for the Slim. Humbelest apologies to SoCalSoftailSlim for being a bit of a copy-cat, but hey, you set the trend with your Slim, so thats the price of fame (hehee).
Happened to win an auction on the devil (eBay) after getting into a bit of a bidding war...had to also buy the mounts seperate for them. I will need to go back through the forum and re-research the best way to mount these so they are straight and professionally looking mounted (any links much appreciated!!).
Anyhow, paid WAAAY too much for them, but happy with my purchase. They should be here hopefully by the holiday, if not, they will be early next week.
Here's a pic from the ebay auction:

I posted a thread way back when on how I mounted my 58s. I can't find it now though. haha. I'll keep looking for a bit.
Biggest thing is use a level along the script of the emblem to get the lettering nice and strait. And make sure your bike is upright, not on the kickstand, when you set the emblems. This will make the script level when on the bike. Though on the kickstand it will look a little off on the left side of the bike, it won't be when the bike is upright on the road, which is what you want.
Found it. Here you go. Should give you some ideas. I was very deliberate and could probably do it faster now. But liked the way it turned out and still do. I appreciate you doing the 57s and not the 58s. haha. Keeps your bike one of a kind anywho.

Well the badges came in yesterday...they look FANTASTIC. I did a quick placement (no pix, but will do some soon) on the tank as so to get a good idea of what lays ahead.
The 3m adhesive, grease pencil are coming today, the mount brackets will be here Saturday.

I tried the ole dental floss and fishing line. Very little headway and A LOT of broken strands. Needed something that would make a better cutting action. So it hit me- thin wound guitar strings. So I grabbed a extra that was laying around and did a test...as long as I pulled back (as SoCalSlim recommended) and went slow, it worked. Here are the results:

Next I cleaned up all the adhesive with the 3M automotive adhesive remover and a very soft plastic scraper. Cleaned up NICE. Rinsed off with some mild soap and water and got ready to apply the mounts.

Prior to removal of the old badges, I did some measurements; I made paper rulers out of manilla folders, blue tapped em for placement (again, thanks John!!). I did a test fit (blue tape on the back of the mount, lined everything up, then grease penciled reference marks for permenent placement).

Once one side was on, I test fitted the other side to make sure they were level and in line (the head on is misleading- they are in line...the handle bars are not entirely straight):

So with all done, decided to head to the rail station in town and do some pix...

I will be happy when the correct screws come in Monday. But other than that, I think I do have my bike where I want it (pipes aside, but that will be for next year). Have to say I am diggin the '57 badges...now to do some creative photo editing.
