Ya I don't know about the bullet holes either except one year Harley just decided to change from the solid rim to the rim with the bullet holes. Opinions and experiences with the solid rims range from no crosswind effect to a definite lateral push. One rider on another forum said the hwy handling with laced rims (over his solids) was remarkably better. Seems it's a 50/50 split on the effects the solid rims can or do have with crosswinds.

I have a solid chromed rear disk on my 02 Softail SS had a solid disk rear on my 93 Low Rider and had one on my 91 FXSTC. I've got probably 45K miles between the three bikes and can't say I've ever noticed a cross wind that got my attention.

If the cross wind is that bad I doubt the rear or front wheel is the culprit. My guess is your body and the total length and height of the entire bike is more to blame than the cubic inches of space the disk(s) takes up over any other type wheel. Just a guess.

I ride four bikes, they all move a little in heavy crosswind/truck passing.
the lighter bike's do a little more .

the solid wheels myth is a urban legend

No issues here related to the wheels. I too get pushed around a bit with strong crosswinds but I believe the same would be true on any bike regardless of wheel type. JMO.

07 FB with bullet holes, unless theres heavy crosswinds like 20mph or more I don't get pushed around. I would expect any bike in 20mph+ crosswinds would get pushed around. When I do get caught up in heavy crosswinds, I don't feel like its just the frt wheel being jerked around. the whole bike gets pushed.

I had a FatBoy and now I have a Crosbones. I don't notice any difference. Everyone makes a big deal about the solid wheelies when it's the big broadside of the bike and the rider on top of that, that adds all of the surface area to push against. Semi-trucks that have holes in the wheels still get blown around.

About 6lbs less, tube an strip included, andnless weight means more power when the hp stays the same but the weight decreases

I actually noticed that my 08 Fatboy gets pushed around by crosswinds a lot LESS than any bike I've owned up until now. I always thought that it was just because it's so much heavier...

I remember a one particularly windy night back in '88 when I was riding my Honda CX500 (first bike) home from a concert and it was so bad I had to stop riding and go spend the night at my brother who lived close to where I was. Been in worse winds on my Fatboy, but never felt it was too dangerous to continue riding...
