Default Hoping I get There (PROJECT)

Just spotted a 2008 Crossbones, has tank damage missing the front fender, looks like it's been dropped. It was listed and is only about 50 miles from me, so I'm waiting for a reply to the message I sent.

Perfect for what I've wanted to do for some time, but the prices on them are crazy.
I want to put full fenders (possibly hinged rear) and a paint job that looks like a Knuck. I've seen a couple done and really like it. I guess it would be called a clone or whatever, don't care, I just think it has potential. Now if I can just get there before someone else, and it has a clean title, straight frame, and the springer isn't damaged..

Well it begins.
Back story. I showed up prepared to use what little knowledge and experience I've gained over the years to get the best price possible, even though the asking price was very fair. I started to go over everything with the seller and he said wait, you need to talk with my Dad. We walked across the street where a man roughly my age, was sitting on the porch smoking Lucky Strikes. I introduced myself and we began talking about HIS bike. I could see he didn't want to sell. He explained the bike needed a lot of attention and even if his son got it going, he would never be able to ride again. He's been retired 2 years, like me, and hadn't been feeling well for over a year. Drs. found he has cancer (didn't ask what type) and sclerosis of the liver. I could tell he probably lived hard and even as he is headed down is still tough. All the money from the sale was going for Medical expenses.
I looked at him and thought about me and how easily I could be the seller in the chair, and he could be the buyer.
I counted out the full asking price, gave it to him, and he handed it to his wife. We left it with a handshake and Thank Yous.
I left feeling much better than most deals I've made. I hated to see him lose his ride, but it was his decision on his terms, and I met them. I can't call it a WIN - WIN, I'll say it was the best outcome for both of us barring a miracle.
He asked me to send pics as I can and to ride it by when I'm finished.
I'm going to do my best to keep a project folder and take pics as it progresses.
Today was definitely a reminder that tomorrow is never promised. I wish all of you WELL and Enjoy the RIDE.

Default Crossbones Makeover

Good day TShep,
I have done the whole fender thing, on my '09 'Bones and used these as a guideline:
HOW TO: Xbones To FLSTS/SC Front Fender Swap - Harley Davidson Forums
HOW TO: Xbones to Fatboy Rear Fender Swap - Harley Davidson Forums
If you want to see the finished article, have a look here:
Crossbones Pictures - Page 153 - Harley Davidson Forums
I tried the split rear fender but didn't work out for me. The first of my 'Bones ) 2009red and black) has a retro paint job (inspired by the 1933) with Knucklehead Rocker box covers.
The second one is currently decked out as a "Marvel Capt. America" type, but have bought a number of parts, including complete set of tins, and the paintwork will probably be two tone black & white, and tank graphics the waterslide "speedball" type found on the real Knucklehead bikes.
If you need more, send me a Private message with your WhatsApp and/or e-mail address, and we can get into finer detail about what parts I used, and where I found some of the more hard-to-find items.
Cheers,
Mark "Peggers" Impey (Qatar)

Thank You. That's the Idea without the passenger pad or bar. Bike looks great. I'm thinking Red and Tan or Forest Green and Tan. Again Beautiful.

Looks like a great start to your project. And, it already has a story.
Thank you for the perspective check. Sometimes we need that.
Keep us posted on how it goes. LOVE them Springers!

Found out part of what I was looking for. It's missing the HARLEY SOFTAIL CROSSBONES '08-'11 FLSTSB SEAT PAN FRAME COVER.
Tomorrow will be degreasing and washing to see what is hiding.

BTW how do you Tag or Alert someone in a post? I've seen the @ used, but I must be doing it wrong. (@Peggers)

You can still get that seat frame cover from Harley: P/N 52257-08. I purchased one when I was working on my Heritage "pogo" seat conversion.

As for tagging someone in a post, just type the @peggers without the ( ) signs. You'll see their screen name pop up when you're doing it right. Then just click on their name and the blue oval will appear.
