This is not an update on the project, as I'm waiting on parts, powder coating, and tires.
Sad News - A man, Johnny Lee Ponder (previous owner), I only briefly spoke with and didn't really know, passed away 09/17, his Funeral was 9//23, and I just read the news a few minutes ago. Turns out he was a few years older than me but still could have been any of us. Enjoy your Family, Friends, the Sunshine, and even the smell and roar of the rain. Don't worry about what others think about your Bell, Pirate costumes, how much your bike cost, if you know what counter-steering is, whether you trailer to a rally, or who waves or doesn't. Ride when you enjoy it and do something else if you don't. DILLIGAF, I do, just not about some of the silly stuff some find important. Had I known I would have ridden to the Funeral and paid my respects.

RIP Johnny Lee Ponder. I hope you look down and approve of what I will be doing with YOUR bike.

For sure. Two years ago this week I suddenly lost my closest friend from second grade all the way up to age 64. The guy was in excellent shape, and died from west nile virus. You never know what's going to get you. Absolutely right about don't worry about what others think. Jeff always said "if you're having fun, you're doing it right." RIP Jeff.

Looking forward to the updates on your project TSheff.

Lost my best friend, best man at my wedding, and partner in crime for 55 years. He wasn't in the best of health, but he was doing OK, until Covid got him. Fortunately we had a good group ride shortly before and I was the last person (text) to contact him that night. Hard head decided he didn't need his oxygen and removed it to go to the bathroom. He went out on his terms.

Might not seem like much, but I've gotten it moving along.

Powder coated several parts, seat, brackets, and pan, unseen parts, and new rubber. I'll do a test ride tomorrow.
No Fuel level indication and VIN ERR - looks like ECM issues. I'll tackle that next.

Well, it's been a while. I've had some setbacks, but such is life. Finally getting back to the project. I'll be getting some more powder coating done this week. Primary, Derby, Trans cover, Cam cover, outer Trans Throwout cover, and a couple of Strut covers for my sons 85 FXR. Glad to be back on track and motivated. Soon as I get the parts back, cams identified, and the new Bassani pipes on, then it's to the SHOP. I need to get it put on the Dyno, a new ECM (seems the previous owner put a different ECM on it and it was not properly setup and matched) new O2 sensors (they were deleted) and possibly a tuner. Then it will be ready to roll and make sure I like it before more $$$ goes into it. Good to have time to be back in the shop again.

Glad to see you're back at it. Just wondering, did you find a rear fender you liked
and did you get the replica tail light & shroud kit mentioned in post #32. Also,
did you find some "hollywood" style bars that fit the springer mounts ?

Thanks!

T.

I think I've got the parts that will work. A little fitment and I'll need to do some minor sheet metal fab for the taillight to fit and be supported properly. It's a start anyway.
