Failure Post Mortem

Picture shows the failure recently experienced resulting in a wasted afternoon removing a stuck broken baffle.
1. The two baffles pictured are identical in part number, but according to the date code were manufactured two years apart. (16613T vs. 17215T)
2. The seam on the intact baffle appears smoothly welded. I find three faint spot welds on the faulty one.
3. On the intact baffle, there are 6 fairly evenly spaced spot welds holding the screen to the front cone. On the faulty one there are only 4 and three of them are on one side.
4. The label on the baffle manufactured in 2013 says 'made in usa' unfortunately, I have no way of knowing which one failed.
5. Note the rust on the poorly manufactured baffle.
I think that in the future, when I order a pair of anything, more thorough checks will be made.

A 1-3/4" washer from Tractor Supply.
Turned on its side it just fits through the slip on end and past the crossover port.
The inner shoulder of the baffle forcing cone is about 1/16" less than the washer on each side. Once past the crossover port, lay the washer flat on the shoulder. And the rest is all brromstick and hammer.
And still on my rant, I am sick and tired of companies' reliance on name alone to imply quality and justify high prices. If their product stops living up to reputation, they will go the way of all others that try that approach.
