Default What is the correct front wheel bearing shim?

Have a 2005 front wheel hub with 3/4" bore deep groove bearings to retrofit for a 2009 that is setup with 25mms bore bearings.
What wheel bearing shim is the best choice, installed on the left side.
HD part number 43315-07 shim is .111" thick , or
HD part number 43904-08 shim is .203" thick.
Using sleeve, spacer/frt wheel on, 43906-08 from the 2009 &
the 43315-07 shim , the left bearing is recessed .170" below the hub lip & the right bearing is recessed .107" below the hub lip
Or
using the 43904-08 shim the left bearing is recessed .078" below the hub lip & the right bearing is recessed .310" below the hub lip.
All these numbers are based on very accurate measurements performed on all the assembly parts.
Any help would be appreciated.

43904-08 is a rear shim and is stamped rear on the shim. I just installed one yesterday

I assume the rotor is not a floating rotor/s. Place wheel it in the forks and bolt the caliper on with new pads on and the pistons bottomed. Measure so the pad backing plates are equal distance (most important). Eyeball the rim with a measuring tool even if you have to just cut a pin gage as a secondary check. Now carefully see what shims you need.

Hmm...Didn't believe me the first time I told you how to do this?

To Put a 2005 narrow-glide sportster front wheel on a 2009...

Use the 43315-07 Shim
along with all the other 09 parts (axle spacers, 25mm bearings, center spacer sleeve)

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...l#post15620619

"You need the 08-later Narrow-glide front spacer sleeve #43906-08 and bearing shim #43315-07 (goes under Primary bearing). The bearing shims allow the Thinner 15mm wide (25mm ID) bearings to be used in a wheel designed for the wider 21mm wide bearings (3/4 & 1" ID). FYI, Harley also sells a installation kit that includes the above 2 parts along with their bearings for this exact situation, but you can just buy the #'s above and use which ever bearing brand you want"

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/sport...l#post15621138"You're working on an '09...
You can use/re-use your:
- 2009 Wheel/axle spacers (changed length in 2008)
- 2009 spacer sleeve (changed in 2008)
- 25mmID x15mm wide bearings (changed in 2008)
- then add the bearing shim for Primary bearing "positioning" (and thus the bearings/spacer sleeve stack-up positioning) within the earlier wheel.

The bearing shim is not 6mm because they also changed the Left spacer length when they went to the thinner 15mm wide bearings. Btw, the bearing shim "surrounds" the sleeve and so it doesn't add to the width dimension of the stack-up"
.
.

What your not taking into account is that they also increased the Left Spacer length for 2008-later.

08-later .648"
07-earlier .518"

So the LEFT "Primary" Side caliper to rotor alignment relationship will remain virtually the same (the calcs show only ~.005" difference)

1.344" = .518 + 21mm ('05 Left spacer + 21mm Wd Bearing)
vs.
1.349" = .648 + 15mm + .111 ('09 Left spacer + 15mm Wd Bearing + 43315-07 Shim)
.
.

Picked up the special order pn 43315-07 bearing shim at the HD dealer today.
Was unaware pn 43904-08 bearing shim is for the rear wheel application.
Thought the 43315-07 shim placed the 25 mms bore bearing too deep in the hole against the hub shoulder.
Understand the longer 08 axle spacer compensates for the deeper recessed left side bearing.
