Question 883 fuel tank mounting question

I have decided to install a Hammer 1275 kit in the 1994 883 hugger the wife and I bought last August. As with any tear down: I am cross-checking everything with the factory service manual as I go.

Per the manual: the fuel tank is fixed to the frame with a series of rubber grommets, spacers, etc... that was not the case when I took the existing tank off: it was held on by naked nuts & bolts.
When I purchased the correct parts from Harley they did't fit on the tank (see picture). Is this tank from a different model year? Should I even bother to try to factory mount it?

Note: the mounting holes in the service diagram are circular, mine are certainly not... they just fit the bolt with room to move the tank fore and aft.

Looks like it might be an earlier tank, like on my 1991. Perhaps your bike was made during a transition to the rubber grommet mount?

Thank you for the response John, maybe I'll check into the '91-'92 model years. Can't get to the nearest dealer for maybe a week or two, will post updates.

I've owned my 1990 Glide from new and the tank is bolted directly to the frame, same as on your bike. You're right to check things as you are, on the other hand the bolted system goes back into history!

You have your fuel petcock on the left (which is correct for 1994) side, my 1991 has it on the right side. You might have issues fitting it, but I'm not sure. I'm guessing you might just have an early 1994 before they changed to grommet mounts? Take a look at your steering neck sticker, it should give the date of manufacture.

EDIT: After looking at Ronnie's microfiche and my '91-'92 FPM, it looks like the grommet mount tanks started in 1993, not exactly sure when they went from right side to the left side petcock.

I guess it's not a big issue, i'll just bolt it back on the way i found it, securely though. It is weird, maybe the original was damaged, or the factory simply put on an old tamk.
