Red face Brakes

My front brake squeals. It bothers me to death, so I got some pads. Pads are cheap, no problem. I go to replace the front pads and I see this new screw that came with the pads. So, I look in my workshop manual and there is a pad retainer that this screw is supposed to go through. Well, I don't have the pad retainer piece. I'm thinking maybe that's why my brake squeals. These things don't seem to be common, but I did find one on J&P Cycles. I hope that fixes the squeal - just a heads-up.

Yeah, I tried a bunch of "disc brake quiet" stuff on the back of the pads, but no joy.

Maybe have to replace the disk or have it turned. (I'm not sure if you even can have them turned).

For reference you can see the stock parts for your bike here, which may help identify anything that's missing. It's worth trying a dealer for replacement stock parts.

I can see no reason to replace the rotor because of noise. The most common reason for noise is a contaminant on the rotor. If it was not not free of contaminant when you installed the new pads, it could still make noise because the pads are now contaminated. You'll have to thoroughly clean the rotor with brake clean or rubbing alcohol and replace the pads. Also give the new pads time to "bed in" properly.
