Default Model identification

Hi Steve here from the UK back in April this year I purchased a 2018 883 iron which I am having rust issues with and finish quality it's my first harley and although I no it's an entry level I feel let down and it only get better , I have only now realised that I have been riding around with the wrong registration plate when I say wrong it is different to the registration document, I was also told that I was purchasing a 2018 model but think I have a 2017 model as the documents read Harley Davidson xl883 iron N 17 and I would of thought the last number would of been 18 could someone help me in identifying the year of manufacture please

Hi Steve and welcome to HDF from elsewhere in the UK. Funnily enough I had a registration plate problem some years ago, so understand the problem, however most members in here won't know what one of those is. The H-D model year is not the same as the calendar year - they started making 2018 models in August 2017, so it is quite feasible for your bike to have been made late last year. My Buell is a 2007 model, made in August 2016. Your VIN will tell you the precise details of your bike, including model year, however it should also be visible on one of the stickers on the frame. On my 2011 Sporty that is on the r/h frame down-tube, by the front head. It will be in the form of MM/YY.
