Default Relocating starter switch and engine stop switch issue

I started to relocate my starter switch/button and engine stop switch. I used my wiring diagram in the manual to guide me and I had a few questions because when I had it all mocked up, it didn't turn over. I've included photos of said mock up..... In the wiring diagram the white/black wire splits and connects to both the starter switch and the engine stop switch. When I set mine up I used a marine grade switch from Napa and a push button I got from amazon someone recommended from HDforums, I ran the white/black(switch power) to the marine switch and used the wire already installed on the switch to connect the starter button. On the other end of the push button starter is the black/red wire that runs to the starter relay. This leaves one of the white/black (switch power) wires unconnected (so I tried different variations hooking each to the starter switch and even hooking them both to it and leaves me with the mysterious grey wire (data link, 15a fuse and eventually meeting back up with the starter relay at the fuse box). On the diagram it shows the grey wire going to the engine start switch (and maybe I just answered my own question) do I need to run an individual white/black and the black/red to the push button starter and finally the grey and the second white/black to the starter switch?

One white/black wire hooked to starter switch. From the switch I connected the black wire (that came installed on the switch) to the push button starter. The other terminal on the push button has the black/red wire that runs to the starter relay.

Okay I went back and took my own advice and viola it worked. Also decided to run the ignition push button hot and solder the grey and white/black wires together and connect them to the switch. Let me know if I should not do this?

Worked out great using the battery box cover.

I may be looking at the wrong wiring diagram (2004 Sportster XL) however if I read the diagram correctly (right handlebar switches) the Grey Wire is power from the Ignition Circuit? The White with Black wire is power to the Ignition Coil and Ignition Module - you can check by looking at Ignition Module Pin 1 and Ignition Coil pin B.

R/BK red with black is power to the ignition circuit from the ignition switch as well as the Starter Relay. Bk/R black with red is connected to the Starter Relay as well.

I think you are correct I must have just mislabeled them from my poor memory, either way it works?

I would follow the original wiring diagram as it ensures the circuit has proper protection and you can troubleshoot future problems.
