Default Fork lock question

Hello everyone. New harley owner. 2019 iron 883.
My question that I can't seem to find an answer for is this: can I remove the fork lock cylinder without disassembling anything extra?
I understand that I have to move the gas tank slightly to get a better angle on extracting the pin that holds the cylinder, but do I need to remove the whole front fork?
A follow-up question would be, can I ride the bike without the cylinder?

The reasoning behind all of this, last week, I was parked at the mall, so I locked the forks just in case. When I came back, I unlocked the fork, but the key wouldn't come out. It would unlock, but the key would stay stuck in there. I am able to lock it and remove the key. So I ended up having to call my wife to bring the spare so I can lock the fork and then use the spare in the ignition. I am not a fan of having two keys on me, especially if I somehow lose one key, I'll be def stuck til I get a copy.

So after reading several forums about the fork locks being crappy, I would rather just take it off, but I'm not 100% sure if removing the lock cylinder is possible.

Thanks in advance

I removed mine on my 07 , I cant remember if the triple tree needed to be removed for it since I had my entire front off at the time already. I put some black silicon in the hole to keep dirt out since I was using this bike for flat track racing.

Do you have not a keyless start on your 2019 ?

You do not have to remove anything, just drill out the pin an while inserted your key, you can extract the lock.

2019 should still be under warranty.

dealer said they'll take a look at it. but this is my daily transportation. Can't really leave it at a shop for more than a day. Also, I've read many stories that the stealership would find any excuse to charge me.

You know and they know it is covered by warranty. It is hardly something you could abuse to stop it working. The dealer will have to fix it and not at your expense.

Go and visit and talk nicely about your concerns. Maybe they will loan you a bike if it is going to take sometime to repair.
