70-79 AMF YEARS
AMF History is HERE
I believe the 1952 Flathead was the first year of the right side shift.
If you are arguing about right side shift...make sure you are not confusing that with right side drive..
There were AMF's with right side SHIFT. 1974 Sporty I believe.

I know OFG is the authority on this and I stand corrected if my info is wrong. The change to left hand shift was mandated by federal law. From what I've read, the left shift was phased in, in late 75. There are riders here that have posted they have 75 models, some right shift, some left shift.
Yep, '75 is when the Fed's mandated 'left side shift, right side brake'.
Depending on when the specific '75 Sportster was manufactured (some were actually built in '74) the bike could either have left or side side shift.

When I swop bikes I've got to think about It quite a bit...my Triton has a right gear change plus the lever is reversed for the rear set foot pegs...so the gears are one up and four down[&:]
