I have that same tach/speedo combo on my '11 Custom. An optional fuel sensor unit is available for the fuel gauge. The nice features I like about is, albeit small, is the fuel gauge, along with the range in miles/km, gear indicator, besides what's already mentioned. Frankly, I use the range to empty much more than the fuel gauge.
As far as seeing in bright sunlight, I have no issues with the readout. There is a light sensor in the unit where the backlight turns on when dark as in my pic below. As mentioned, there is no issue seeing the readout in dark or bright sunlight.
I'm not absolutely sure why HD do 2 models, one for domestic and one for international. The international one is very useful. I usually use MPH but on trips to France I switch it to KPH to match their speed limit signs.
