Tachometer
You'll have to define what is "not too expensive". IMHO, anything you find
under ~$100 is probably not going to work well. I have never used this
version below from Bikers Choice, but it is about as "cheap" as I would go...

Doesn't the power 'nose over' before the rev limiter?
Dunno I've never hit it. I have the rev limit set at 6500 rpm. From the dyno sheets I have seen for the 100hp package it seems to flatten out in the mid 6000's. This thread actually got me thinking about shift lights again and I found a new dyna setup for efi HD on eBay for super cheap that I am going to see if I can get to work. Looking at the wiring diagram for the efi coil it seems like it should work if I just cut off the plug and wire it directly to the coil, or preferably the tach wire from the 2000i. I would like to set up a light at 4500 or 5000 rpm to give a reference point. We'll see if it works out. I would prefer a light to a tach as I never look at a tach normally except for tuning (idle) or when I'm really getting on the throttle, but at that point the last thing I really want to do is take my eyes off the road.

or otherwise be obtrusive ? I have the AutoMeter Quick-Lite in my "project" Trans Am and I like it since it is
fairly small and not too gaudy like some of those tach's with the shift light attached to them. I took the sticker
off of it so it is even less noticeable...

Just an opinion,

The Dyna shift light pictures I have seen online make it appear rather large (diameter). Would it "get in the way"

So back to the original "add a tach", I have read a few complains about
the Baron handlebar mounted tach's. These may not be available anymore
and are not "cheap" either. I do not recommend anything that I have not used,
so if you go with this one, report back & let us know how it worked out....

As a heads up, some of these tachs needs a module (as I recall, another $50+ of parts).
If no module the tachs seems to read 1/2 the actual rpm.
There is also bracket you'll need to fabricate depending on your OCD of the tach's orientation.
As for cheap, I'd predict $200 will be your budget with new aftermarket parts.
If using HD parts, well, I'd up the budget to $500.
Could be junk yard searches will be the low-cost option.
Good luck.
