I’ve always put the taper facing out. Meaning flat side against the head and taper facing the pipe.

Taper out, OEM style. Aftermarket likes a flat gasket, I find the OEM works better. Unless you are building a Top Fuel motor, your results may vary.

Last set I did I put them in the freezer overnight and they went in without bending or deforming. .

They can get mangled on the install if you’re not careful.
