RE: Want to replace stock turn signals
I don't like the large diameter lights that stick out 3-4 inches from the fender, I would like something more low profile that would go in the same spot as the originals. The signals on a 94 or newer sportster seem smaller I could go that way if they would fit on my 2000.

Well...............You might wanna consider the new nightster signals and do away completely with your taillight.....The Nightster turns work like brake and turns without center tail light.
It really boils down to the TOTAL look you are wanting to achieve......Start with the tin and the lines you gotta have then adapt the required stuff like license and turns.

The stock signals on a '94 and newer sportster are HUGE as seen in this picture. I relocated the stockers on the rear of my '96 to sit directly on my fender struts. Here's a few pics.
I still didn't care for the look of the signals so I switched to mini bullets. I found em on ebay. They are about an inch in diameter and three inches in length. I have relocated the front signals to the lower triple trees. The rear signals are in the stock location. I don't have any pics of the rears at this time. Here's a pic of the front view.

Oh BTW the signals are very bright. I had to install a load equalizer in-line for the signals to still blink. I used a Badlands load equalizer II which was recommended by my local HD dealer. If I remember correctly they only charged me $36 including tax for the unit and it was well worth it. Easy to install as well.
