Default Lights Question

I just had the dealer put fog light on my bike. The way he set it up is that if I put the high beams on the fog lights turn off, and if I have the low beam on the fog lights are on. The dealer said that this is required by law. I am not the most mechanically inclined, but would like to be to have the fog's and brights on at the same time. Does anyone have an easy fix for this? I'll risk the ticket.

Well, you really shouldn't have your high beams on in the fog.

Ken,

I think he just wants maximum light if it's a "high beam" situation.

Contact the folks at www.mrtaillights.com

I know they make kits for vehicles, and maybe for motorcycles too.

Edit: Well crap. The link doesn't work any more. I'll do some checking when I get home this afternoon. I know there are kits out there.

Can you post a pic of your set-up?

All you have to do is follow the power (+) wire from the fog lights back to where it connects to its relay. The relay control wire (input) will be tied to the headlight circuit which has 3 wires, Black will be ground, then there will be a yellow and a white wire. If the relay control wire is connected to the white wire, move it to the yellow wire. If it's connected to the yellow wire, move it to the white wire. I don't remember which color is which but one is for the highbeam and one for the lowbeam.

Good post by cHarley. Do you want the fogs on for both low and high? If that's the case, it's going to be more difficult. In my opinion, I would leave them the way they are. That's the safest.

Whatever you end up doing, just don't forget about oncoming traffic. You don't want to blind them while they are driving towards you. Too many people have lights that are either out of alignment, or not set up properly. And that can be a bad situation. Not to mention it pisses off everyone coming towards you.

These are fog lights, the reason they don't work on high beam is do to the fact that in FOG the light is reflected back at you on high beam and will hinder your ability to see. Maybe you should switch to driving lights?

Actually, you will find that MoCo installed driving/passing lights are wired to the lowbeam circuit as well, it's the law, not that I personally give a sh**.

If you want the driving/passing/fog lamps to work off both the low and high beams, you will need to install a second relay. One relay driven by the white wire, the other by the yellow wire. The relay outputs (wire to the fog lamps) would be jumpered together.
