I am thinking of Painting My Engine Case, Cylinder Cases and Heads Flat Satin Black like the Nightster. Have anyone Painted their Engine Cases and how did it come out? I see that VHT has the High Heat Satin Black for Engine Cases and thinking of using that.
Make sure the engine is damn clean before you go painting. Eastwood.com sells prep that will take care of that for you. They also sell a ceramic based paint that is good up to 1200F. I would NOT recommend anything less.
The best high heat paint you can buy is Thurmalox Stove Paint, the stuff I use is part# 270-02 Satin Black.
This is the best black heat paint I have found in the last 30 yaers it is designed to run at high temperatures for hours at a time and it will also stay on chrome, I have 2 exhaust systems painted with this stuff and 3 differant air cooled engines, 2 Harleys and a Volkswagen.
I can't buy it anywhere here soI order it on line and it's worth the wait to get, I've been using this product for 3 years now and I will never again use crappy engine paint or header paint.
