Default Engine Noise

I have a 07 883R with 4700 miles on it. Did the first oil change at 500 miles with HD dino oil. The next change was a 1000 miles and used Mobil 20-50 v twin oil. About 1000 miles back I started hearing a rattle that sounds like a valve train noise. The noise starts after riding for about 30 minutes. Today after a short hop the rattle starting to get louder. Anybody else run into this. I know what your going to say. This is it needs to go into the shop. Damn ! It's riding season. Any help from the experts out there?

Thanks
Billy

Do you hear the noise when your at a stop and the bike's in neutral?

Could be the primary chain, they need adjustment at the 5K check.

Sounds like you're doing your own service, yes?

The 1,000 mile service needs ALL nuts, bolts and screws tightened, primary chain adjusted, drive belt checked and tightened if necessary. I had the stealer do my 1,000 mile service because it was part of the sale. When I got it back it was better and tighter than new. It seems a lot of things get loose or worn in in that initial 1,000 miles.

Go over ANYTHING that needs to be tightened and adjust your primary chain to spec (most likely cause of your noise).

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

You sure it's not the gas cap?

Yes, I do my own work. Tomorrow I will check the gas cap and the primary chain. Two things I didn't tell on my first post. #1, it's had stage 1 done to it. #2, I was out riding with SportyPig today. Could either one of these have caused the problem?

I wonder if you have a screw loose inside the air cleaner, there was a post a while back where shortly after a stage 1 upgradea screw got loose inside the air cleaner and ended up getting sucked into the engine causing massive damage, I would pull the AC cover and check that before you run it again just to be on the safe side.

all these suggestions sound great to me but I am leaning towards a lifter going flat after the oil gets hot. Its not the type of oil, just a bad lifter. Warranty issue to be left to the dealer. Don't divulge the brand oil you used and if they ask tell them HD oil, then they can't blame it on that.

I have the same thing happening, and it definatly sounds like a bad lifter.

I hate the idea of having a dealer work on my bike anymore after the **** ups they've done already!

Anyone know how hard/easy it is to chage them out?

The gas cap does make a bit of noise sometimes.
So does the primary chain & valve train, when compared to a car.
Don'tadjust pushrods like a car they are not the same.
